“Energy Efficiency at Household Buildings” Program (Renovation grant)

The calls for the new “Energy Efficiency at Household Buildings” Program are expected to be officially launched as soon as the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (ΚΕΝΑΚ) is updated. Priority will be give to about 35 000 citizens who have submitted file for the previous National Strategic Reference Framework (ESPA) but couldn’t be financed because there weren’t enough funds.

The maximum eligible costs are up to EUR 250 per square metre and the maximum limit is EUR 25 000. For example, for a 100 sq.m. residence the recipient could be financed in the form of a grant or/and an interest-free loan up to EUR 25 000 and for a 60 sq.m. residence EUR 15 000.

The types of residences which are eligible for subsidy through the programme are detached houses, blocks of flats and independent apartments.

In the case of the block of flats, a block representative submits an application form and then all the owners apply to the same bank. They can assign a project manager to submit the application forms, monitor project progress and energy efficiency interventions and produce documents. After the necessary documents have been collected, the application form is submitted to the contracting Bank.

In order to enter the Programme, energy inspections have to be conducted in the three following categories of eligible interventions:

  • Replace doors / windows (frames / glazing) and install shading systems;
  • Install thermal insulation materials on a building shell including the terrace, the roof and the veranda and
  • Upgrade the heating and hot water supply systems.
